In 2004, I took a job at the alt-weekly Chattanooga Pulse (now offline) covering music. There I conducted interviews with bands such as Iron and Wine, Of Montreal, The Decemberists, as well as a three day tour coverage of Wilco in the southeast, interviewing Jeff Tweedy multiple hours for a cover story titled “At Least That’s What He Said” (2005). In 2006, I became an editor for The Other Journal, where I covered an intersection of psychology and music. I wrote featured pieces on artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Metallica, and Steely Dan. My article Nicolas Cage and the Problem of Evil was included in the journal’s first bound print edition on the topic of celebrity. While, with The Other Journal, I also published interviews with Bill Callahan and Blitzen Trapper, respectively.
In 2015, I contributed to the Seattle Weekly’s issue on the Bush-era torture program by listening to Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” for 24 hours in a row and writing an essay on the experiment.
